Talking to Children About Race

How should we speak to our children about race?  This is the question that was posed to our brother Thabiti.  Here is his well spoken answer.  For me the question is evidence that racial (and/or cultural) differences needfully drive our approaches to life.

For example, do we not find that the answer to this question is answered differently depending on the cultural/racial context in which the question is ask?  Would not a white american answer his son differently than would a black american?  Would not a Native american answer the question still more differently?  Surely, if we are Christians our answers would find their ultimate resolution in the person and work of Christ.  The biggest difference, however, would be how we get to Christ.  What do you think?

I have had good open talks with my children who are of to differant cultures. That if adam and eve are the first parents there is no such a thing as race but cultures. A man and a women from anywhere in the world can come together and have children but a cat and a dog can not make caog. So much of the culture differances go back to Noah and his children, the tower of Babel and the confusing of languages.
